How does closed-loop vagus nerve stimulation (VNS) compare with standard VNS for reducing seizure frequency in children with epilepsy? New findings presented at AES 2021 provided some answers.
VNS is an effective option for drug-resistant unresectable epilepsy, with approximately 60% of patients achieving a seizure reduction of 50% or more. But little is known about how closed-loop VNS models, which detect ictal tachycardia and stimulate the vagus nerve, compare with standard VNS in pediatric epilepsy.
